Scarborough College – where horizons are broadened and talents explored, on the North Yorkshire Coast
We are a small, friendly, high achieving school with a wide variety of nationalities represented within our boarding community. We are a co-educational school for children aged 3-18, offering boarding for pupils aged 11 upwards. Our school, with approximately 350 pupils, is a very safe place to live and learn, where academic standards and support is very high. Between the ages 14-16 our students study for their GCSEs in academic subjects, which sees 94% students passing Maths, 3 sciences and one modern foreign language. There is a focus on encouraging students to adopt a global perspective which gives them the competitive edge in their future careers.
All our Sixth Form students study for the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma and achieve very good grades (average point score 31 points for 2015) with a variety of excellent university destinations both in the UK and across the globe, including the top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.
Friendly atmosphere in a beautiful location
Founded in 1896, the school sits within an attractive 20-acre site overlooking the South Bay of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The school has a warm, friendly and caring ambience which is frequently commented upon by visitors. This environment enables our boys and girls to flourish personally and academically. The school provides a safe environment aimed at encouraging independence. With excellent travel links by road, rail and air, it doesn’t take long to reach us and see the beauty that surrounds Scarborough College.
Outstanding pastoral care
Scarborough College places high value on pastoral care and support for every child. Children in the Junior School are closely monitored by their class teacher, whilst pupils in the Senior School benefit from the guidance of their form tutor who sensitively oversees their social development as well as academic progress. All the way through the school, students receive individual support and care to ensure they are happy, motivated and achieving their best. Senior students continue to receive close individual support, and staff and students work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and co-operation.
The school has a strong reputation for offering a broad and stimulating education. Underpinned by traditional principles, the school has always championed innovation, which led it to be one of the first schools in North Yorkshire to introduce the International Baccalaureate (IB). The school is currently the top-performing IB school in Yorkshire and the North East of England. At the school’s heart are the traditional disciplines of English, mathematics, science and modern foreign languages. Extra English language tuition is given, where necessary, to international students. Sixth Form students study the IB, which is an exciting two-year course of study that prepares students for life after school and university. The IB offers a comprehensive and balanced qualification that is recognised throughout the world.
